Paravia, established in 1797, is specialized in publishing textbooks destined for the school market (from primary school to university level). In particular, its specialist publications deal with the fields of philosophy, history, history of literature, linguistics, scientific subjects (especially math), and cinema. Paravia is also specialized in the publication of bilingual dictionaries (Italian to English, French, German, Spanish), organized according to age range and learning level. The Italian-Latin dictionary Campanini Carboni, provided with a CD ROM version called Nomen, has been authoritatively adopted in Italian schools for decades. The publication in the year 2000 of the innovative Dizionario della lingua italiana by Tullio De Mauro will be the crowning achievement of Paravia's lexicographic project.
