This book offers an overview of Italian art from Magna Grecia up to the Twentieth century, a view of the country’s art in the Italian language. It guides the student to react directly to a work of art, and at the same time supplies the tools for a critical interpretation. Each chapter introduces an artist, or a school of art or period, and focuses on a work of art, painting, sculpture or building that is usually familiar to the non-specialist. The work is introduced through pre-reading questions or brief activities and simplified reading texts.
The book has a flexible structure and can be used to integrate a standard language and culture course or as a complete course on art history.
