Training course in multimedia methodology and didactics for teachers of Italian Language and Culture
Review of didactic units in order the to develop multimedia techniques with strong communicative impact – Comparison and evaluation of the new techniques.

The main goals of the course are to:

· Stimulate teachers to the use of multimedia as a valid and important teaching tool.

· Overcome the discrepancies in the technological gap that exists in the communication methods used in schools and extra scholastic venues.

· Use new technology for the development of better defined didactic units which are more satisfactory and profitable for the student. 

· To supply teachers with the basic knowledge needed to create their own multimedia didactic materials.

Course structure
The training course consists of 18 lesson hours over a 3 day period. People will be divided into working groups for the development of materials.

Daily schedule
· Lesson in multimedia didactics: 1 hour
· Methodology: 1½ hours
· Technical workshop in computer science: 3½ hours, (explanations – exercises – conceptualizing and planning a multimedia didactic unit)   

The teaching Team
Consists of experts in teaching methodologies, in the development of didactic materials and experts in multimedia computer technology. 
 
WORK PROGRAM 

1.  LESSONS IN MULTIMEDIA DIDACTIS:

 · The evolution of didactic methods in the teaching of the Italian Language and Culture (Motivation for the students)· Analysis of the didactic unit facing the needs of the students as to the transformation which has taken place in the mass media, in multimedia resources and computer science. (Examples and comparison of didactic units) 

2.   METHODOLGY

Creating and developing a multimedia didactic unit managing adequate to the various levels of competence in Italian and to the different levels of class instruction in the use of technical instruments of computer science.

First Phase
· Identification of the target students
· Choosing the content to develop (for example: Italian culture or history, geography or art…)
· Setting of the goals and appropriate didactics

 Second Phase
·  Overall organization and construction of the conceptual plan

3.  COMPUTER SCIENCE WORKSHOP

 The participants must fill out the admission form in order to verify the level of competence in computer science.

Third Phase: Developing the Unit
· Researching textual materials and making appropriate choices.
· Use of hypertext references and develop them into the overall conceptual plan.
· Drafting together of materials for illustration and presentation.
· Identification of the main points in the subject matter and choice of the appropriate technological tools for communication (text – audio – video – photography and film – music – sounds –  telematic links – research of materials from internet).

 Fourth Phase: Development of communicative materials

Computer Science Workshop: technical explanations and related practical exercises

· Using computer programs as a means of communication: PPT – Photoshop – Illustrator –I Movie or Movie Maker or Pinnacle – Garage Band or other – After effects.
· Installation and implementation of the multimedia materials created.
·  Trial run and verification of the technical functionality and compatibility of the program contents.

4. PRESENTATION OF THE DIDACTIC UNIT (articulation and congruity)

• Illustration of the work carried out in the development of the unit
• Presentation of the didactic unit created
• Discussion
• Final evaluation
• Awarding of the Certificate of Participation

The course provides for the use of all necessary technical tools and equipment:
