Edizioni White Star was founded in 1984 and within a few years it became one of the most important publishers of illustrated books, both nationally and internationally. Today it boasts a catalogue of more than 600 books, published in various languages and distributed directly in 5 countries (Italy, France, Germany, U.K., U.S.), which range from Archeology to Art, and on to Nature, High Technology, Photography, Ethnology, Mountaineering, Marine Biology, Music, Haute Cuisine, Cinema and Social Customs. The rapid evolution of Edizioni White Star has been matched with an exponential growth of co-editions, distributed in more than 60 countries; starting with 230 in 1998 the number of co-editions has increased in recent years and today there are more than 1000. The international vocation of Edizioni White Star has led to the foundation of solid cooperation with some of the most important cultural institutions in the world, such as the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, and with some of the most famous publishers. The National Geographic Society, with which Edizioni White Star signed an exclusive agreement in 2001, is one of its most important partners. As a result of this agreement, Edizioni White Star became the representative of the National Geographic for illustrated books, guides and maps in Italian.. In order to reinforce its commercial presence abroad, Edizioni White Star has now set up direct operations in Germany, with White Star Verlag, and in France, with Editions White Star, and avails itself of a dedicated book distribution network. Furthermore, in 2001, White Star began to distribute its products directly in English: its catalogue now includes more than 370 books. Under the White Star Publisher brand name, since 2004 White Star has also published directly in the United States and Canada, where it has just established a new successful cooperation relationship with Sterling.
