Leonardo
L'anatomia
by Domenico Laurenza
Leonardo da Vinci devoted much attention to anatomical studies. He jotted down his thoughts, and sketched drawings for about fifty years. This book offers a comprehensive view of Leonardo’s anatomical drawings, and his intense activity in the field, which is also compared, for the first time, to the anatomical iconography of the period. Domenico Laurenza’s critical apparatus explain how Leonardo perceived anatomical research as an aid to his art. In fact, the main purpose of his studies was to understand the internal functioning of the body so that he could paint or sculpt the external parts in his works of art. The book explores a new chapter of Leonardo’s many-sided activities, further enriching the current series of books on Leonardo published by Giunti.
