Caribbean Architecture

by Giancarlo Gardin and Massimo Rosati

Gianfranco Fini was born in Rome in 1936 and graduated with a degree in architecture from the University La Sapienza, where he has been a professional architect and designer since 1976. He possesses the nature of an artistic architect, having participated actively in the sixties in a movement called the Roman School, centered around the famous gallery The Turtle. Also, for several years he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts Aquila.

In 1992 he was asked to create new projects in the resort of Casa de Campo, famous for its golf course designed by Pete Dye, located along the Caribbean coast to the east of Santo Domingo, near the island of Saona. This privileged work experience, unique in its kind, has allowed him to develop the whole urbanization of the Navy, which extends over an area of over 100,000 meters squared sifting through the design aspects and the building of the complex.

This book contains more than 300 full-page color photographs, created by Giancarlo Gardin expressly for publication in this volume. It shows the entire construction of this great work “marine”, an urban complex that is situated in a landscape of great value, the mouth of the Rio Chavon.
