On Sunday October 1st, Bologna welcomed Pope Francis on a pastoral visit to the city. For this unique occasion, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair-BolognaFiere and the Church of Bologna organized a large exhibition of illustrated books for children and young people.
The exhibition comprises 200 picturebooks selected from the Bologna Children’s Book Fair dealing with nine different issues that concern us today. Some of them are classics; others are en route to becoming classics; the rest are recent or even brand-new. Divided into nine major themes, it is a far-reaching exhibition on major contemporary issues – often raised by His Holiness – in terms understandable to children.
Sponsored by IBBY Italia and the Emilia-Romagna Regional Education Bureau, the exhibition was inaugurated on Sunday October 1st at the Basilica di San Domenico and will move to th Basilica dei Santi Barolomeo e Gaetano, where it will be open to the public from October 4th 2017 to January 10th 2018.
