Last month Walmart announced it’s strategic alliance with Rakuten “the number one e-commerce company in Japan.”
The core of this partnership lies in the addition of eBook and audiobooks (powered by Kobo, Rakuten’s digital book business) as an entirely new category to Walmart’s assortment.
As a fully integrated shopping experience, customers will be able to shop for both physical books and eBook versions. To making shopping more easily accessible, a Walmart/Kobo co-branded app will be released for all iOS and Android devices, a desktop app and Kobo eReaders. Walmart will also start to offer eBook cards in stores.
